About the Festival
Every winter, Wellington comes alive with a kind of energy you can feel the moment you pull into the showgrounds.
The Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF), held at Wellington International, runs from December 31 through March 29 and draws an extraordinary mix of riders, trainers, owners, and spectators. It’s widely recognized as the longest-running winter circuit in the Southeast and home to some of the most anticipated moments in national and international show jumping.
With major championships, world-ranked competitions, and an unmatched depth of talent, WEF has established itself as one of the sport’s defining stages.
Spectators, trainers, and owners blend performance-driven practicality with the effortless style that Wellington is known for. It’s an environment that naturally raises expectations, not only for riders, but for the apparel designed to support them.
The festival becomes a real-world test of craftsmanship, offering apparel brands the chance to see how pieces move, breathe, and hold up through long days of training and competition, shaping a higher standard for what equestrian clothing can achieve.

What To Wear at WEF: The JODS Style Guide
The WEF has its own rhythm, its own style, and its own unspoken dress code: classic equestrian elegance with the easy sophistication of Palm Beach living. Whether you're stepping into the ring or soaking in the atmosphere from the sidelines, here’s how to dress the part with confidence and a little flair:
For Riders
Florida in winter can be charmingly unpredictable: crisp mornings, mild afternoons, breezy evenings, and the occasional misty drizzle. The key is versatility by utilizing pieces that feel weightless, regulate body temperature, and hold up through multiple rounds.
-
Lightweight Layers: Start with breathable baselayers that wick moisture and keep you comfortable even during peak classes. Look for soft, high-performance fabrics that feel barely there but support every stride.
-
Premium Show Shirts: A great show shirt isn’t just about looking sharp. It’s about choosing fabrics that allow airflow under a show coat and stretch enough to never fight your riding position. When humidity can sneak up even in winter, lightweight show shirts with mesh panels and subtle ventilation zones will prove to be invaluable.
-
Performance Breeches: Clean lines. Technical grip. A polished silhouette. Breeches should move with you, flatter beautifully, and hold up under intense saddle time. Many riders alternate between a classic white pair for FEI or rated classes and softer tones for warm-ups or weekday rounds.
For Spectators
Whether you’re cheering on your rider, exploring Vendor Village between classes, or heading straight into an evening Grand Prix, the goal is effortless comfort with a refined, equestrian-inspired look.
-
Smart Outerwear: Evenings by the ringside can cool off quickly. Lightweight jackets and quilted layers offer just enough structure to keep your outfit polished while still feeling easy to wear throughout the day.
-
Chic Layering Pieces: Breathable knits, linen blends, and crisp button-downs are always dependable choices, especially when paired with comfortable pants or polished denim that can handle hours of walking around the grounds.
-
Sunshirts & Athletic Tops: JODS’ sunshirts and athletic tops add an easy, refined layer to the spectator wardrobe. These pieces can keep you cool and comfortable throughout the day.
Tips From Our Team
Navigating a full season at WEF means dressing for early-morning schooling sessions, mid-day heat, and long evenings around the showgrounds. With so many variables, choosing the right pieces becomes less about trends and more about understanding what truly performs in Wellington’s unique climate and atmosphere.
These expert insights will help you build a wardrobe that supports your ride, enhances your comfort, and keeps you looking polished from start to finish:
Fabric Matters
Look for performance textiles that manage Florida’s shifting weather:
-
Moisture-wicking materials for warm, humid afternoons
-
UV-protective fabrics for long hours ringside
-
Lightweight stretch blends that move with you without losing their shape
The right fabric keeps you polished even after a full day on the grounds.
Fit First
A well-fitted piece doesn’t just look better — it works better. Breeches should support without restricting, show shirts should stay smooth under a coat, and outer layers should be trim enough for riding to help you maintain confidence and retain freedom of movement.
Layer Smart
Morning rides can feel completely different from late-afternoon classes. Start with breathable base layers, then add pieces you can remove or adjust as temperatures change. Consider pairing technical shirts with a light jacket or vest to stay comfortable without compromising a polished silhouette.
Color Palette With Purpose
Neutrals such as white, beige, navy, and soft grey create a timeless base and pair well with show attire. If you enjoy a hint of color, save it for thoughtful accents. Select pieces that offer a fresh seasonal shade in a sunshirt or a subtle pop in your accessories to add personality without distracting from a classic equestrian look.
Dress for Longevity
Choose pieces that stay crisp, resist stretching out, and dry quickly after a humid morning or a quick rinse to prepare for the long WEF days. Clothing that maintains its structure throughout the day keeps you looking composed, whether you're in the ring or moving between arenas.

Why JODS Loves WEF
As a family-owned business devoted to serving women in equestrian sport, showing at WEF feels like being right where we belong. The festival brings together some of the most passionate riders in the world: women who balance style, discipline, ambition, and heart every time they step into the ring.
We return to WEF each year because the atmosphere reflects the values we care about most:
-
Performance at the highest level
-
A genuine commitment to excellence
-
A community that supports and celebrates women in the sport
-
An appreciation for premium quality and a precise, reliable fit
This is where future champions develop, seasoned professionals refine their craft, and equestrian fashion becomes part of a rider’s toolkit rather than an afterthought. Therefore, every piece worn here must look polished, feel comfortable, and support the work being done in the saddle.
“We come to WEF every year because it reflects everything JODS stands for: luxury, performance, and the joy of equestrian sport. Serving riders here is an honor, and helping women feel confident in the saddle is why we do what we do.”
— Michelle Badagnani, Co-Founder
