The Breeches Guide
Looking for new show breeches but not sure where to begin? Read our detailed breeches guide for a breakdown of our show breeches. We discuss fabric, rise, length, and styling to help you select your perfect pair.
For Horses
For Horses has taken the US market by storm in the last couple of years with their slim fit and super-stretchy fabric. 100% made in Italy, this brand has the iconic Italian flag button sewn onto the right thigh of every pair of breeches. They run shorter than both the Equiline and Tailored Sportsman breeches, making them a great option for average or shorter riders.
Ennie
The most popular style from For Horses, the Ennie breeches are a mid rise fit in their Ultra-Move fabric, which is a highly stretchy, lightweight fabric. This gives the breeches a legging-like feel, with a slim fit through the legs. The back pockets are perfectly placed for a perky back-end. The waistband has the same full stretch. This makes them a "fit-everyone" type of breech--perfect for both slim riders and riders with a larger midsection. They are offered in a wide variety of colors, making them favorites for both showing and schooling. In response to feedback from some customers that prefer a lighter tan, they’ve recently released a new color, light tan, in addition to their darker beige. This is a classic tan show color. Model is wearing size 42.
Rita
The Rita breeches are in the same Ultra-Move fabric as Ennie, but in a true high-rise fit. With no back pockets, they have a streamlined look perfect for the show ring. They are also offered in a wide variety of colors. Model is wearing size 42.
Petra
Petra is the newest style from For Horses. Utilizing their rider-approved Ultra-Move fabric in this style, Petra combines some of the best aspects of the Ennie and Rita. It’s a high rise fit, but with flattering, angled back pockets. It also has unique seaming down the sides of the legs that make them super flattering. In light tan, JODS has opted for a no-crystal version that’s perfect for hunters, jumpers, or equitation. Model is wearing size 42.
Dali
For riders that like a more structured fabric, the Dali is a perfect choice. It’s in the original FH fabric, which has a thicker feel and provides more coverage and support. The Dali is a flattering high rise fit, with sculpting seams that give a lifting effect. This style does run smaller than the other For Horses breeches, so we recommend sizing up. The model is wearing a size 44 in this style, versus a 42 in the other styles.
Tailored Sportsman
Tailored Sportsman continues its iconic run in the equestrian world, now featuring the highly anticipated Tech Light fabric. The tech light offers a sophisticated, lighter-weight alternative to the traditional weave, providing superior flexibility without sacrificing the classic styling the brand is famous for. Available in a vast array of colors, and an impressive number of fit options including low and mid-rise, front and side-zip, shorts, regulars, and longs, there is something to fit every rider’s body and taste. The tech breeches are offered in two new styles: the classic style with clarino knee patches and clean back, or a new style with back pockets and silicone knee patches. Compared to the cotton-based fabric, some riders are finding the Tech Light breeches to fit smaller–so consider sizing up. The model is wearing size 26 in both styles. Low rise is shown in the tan-patch video, while mid rise is worn in the silicone style.
Equiline
This Italian brand has become a cult favorite among top hunter/jumper and equitation riders. With their iconic “black triangle” logo on the leg, these breeches can be spotted across the show grounds. These breeches run long, making them a great option for tall riders. They come in a wide variety of styles, with many seasonal options offered for a limited time only. Pro tip: if you love a seasonal style, stock up while you have the chance! They rarely remake their limited edition options. Permanent collection items are listed below in detail, and then we've listed the seasonal breeches by rise.
Atirk
Made of their B-move fabric, the Atirk breeches are made with stretchy, technical fabric that feels great in and out of the saddle. Equiline's B-Move fabric is thicker than For Horses' Ultra-Move fabric, but offers more compression and a more substantial feel. Atirk is a mid-rise fit, with a slightly larger waist than most of the other Equiline styles--some people size down in these breeches. The back pockets are well placed to highlight your best asset.
Ernaek
The Ernaek breeches are a perfect mid to high rise fit. They are higher than Atirk, but do not fit as high as the For Horses Rita breeches or some of the seasonal Equiline high rise styles. Most people love the fit of these breeches. The seaming along the back of the pants gives a great lift, while keeping a clean, classic look suitable for every discipline.
Samshield Breeches
Samshield is a French brand with high performance fabric that feels stretchy and breathable, but is more substantial than a pair of leggings or the For Horses Ultra-Move fabric.
Clotilde
The Clotilde breeches are a classic mid-to-high rise fit. With subtle embroidered logo on the leg and silicone knee grip, they are perfect for hunters, jumpers, or equitation. Flattering pleating on rear and Euro seat seaming.
